Payment statuses, receipts, and refunds
Square tells Relay Tow when a payment changes, so you rarely need to check by hand. The invoice updates within moments of the customer paying.
Payment statuses
Pending: a payment link exists and nothing has been paid yet. The invoice stays open.
Approved: Square has approved the card and is finishing the payment. The invoice stays open.
Completed: the payment went through. The invoice is marked Paid, and you and your customer are emailed.
Failed or canceled: the payment did not go through. The invoice stays open, and you get a payment failed email. Send a new link and the customer can try again.
Refunded: you refunded the payment in Square. The payment shows as refunded, and you get an email.
Emails
You get "You were paid $X on invoice N" when a payment completes, "A payment on invoice N failed" when it does not, and "Invoice N was refunded" after a refund. These go to your company's email address.
Your customer gets "Receipt from your company, $X" when payment completes, if an email address is on the invoice.
Check a status yourself
If a status looks out of date, use the refresh option on the invoice or the driver app's Collect Payment screen. Relay Tow asks Square for the latest and updates the invoice.
Refunds
Issue refunds from your Square Dashboard, not from Relay Tow. Relay Tow picks the refund up and marks the payment as refunded. If you refund only part of a payment, check the Square Dashboard for the exact amount, because Relay Tow shows the payment as refunded either way.
Payouts and fees
Square handles processing fees and sends payouts to your bank account on its own schedule. Those details are in your Square Dashboard.
