How calls, impounds, invoices and accounts connect
Four records do most of the work in Relay Tow: calls, impounds, invoices and accounts. Here is what each one is and how they link together.
Call
A call is a request for service, such as a tow, a jump or a lockout. It is also called a job, and some driver and payment screens call it a dispatch. A call holds the details, the vehicle, the assigned drivers, photos, notes and status history. Calls live in the Call Log.
Impound
An impound is a vehicle held at one of your storage lots, with fees until it is released. An impound is created from a call, in the dashboard or the driver app. It tracks the vehicle (make, model, year, color, plate, VIN, odometer), the storage lot, impound date, days held, charges, the balance due, and a linked invoice. Impounds live under Impounds.
Invoice
An invoice bills a customer for work. It has line items, discounts, tax and a total. An invoice can come from:
The dashboard, under Invoices.
The driver app quick invoice on the Collect Payment screen. One invoice per dispatch.
An impound, through its linked invoice.
When an impound's invoice is paid, the impound's balance due goes to $0.
Account
An account is a customer you bill, such as a motor club or a business. It is not the same as a user login. Each account can have its own customer rates for towing, storage and extra services. Accounts live under Accounts.
How they fit together
Rates come from the account. Applying an account's rates to a call calculates the totals.
Impound fees come from your active rates for that customer account.
Each call also has an account type, such as police, private or highway.
